Dodgers vs Cubs– Game 1 Wednesday October 1 @ Wrigley Field 3:30pm TV: TBS
Stats: L.A. vs CHI
Interesting stats. But those are stats from this year. How about this historical stat…The Dodgers and Cubs have played each other 2,024 times since their first game in Brooklyn in 1890, splitting the all-time series 1,012-1,012. Another interesting thing is that the Dodgers and the Cubs have never face each other in the post-season.
Video Time: Alfonso Soriano & Lou Piniella talks about facing the Dodgers…
9-28-08 Dodger Stadium
Tonight I attended the Post-Season Rally. If you didn’t go, don’t worry. Dodgers recorded it and you can see it all by clicking here. It was a nice event. 10,000 fans showed up. More than what a Tampa Bay Rays game draws. The best part was the ending when the Dodgers arrived and Manny Ramirez and others spoke. Can’t wait for the playoffs to begin. Bring on the Cubs ! Here is a picture of Tommy Lasorda yelling at the fans and saying that the Cubs are going down !!
Here is a pix of Manny Ramirez and Nomar Garciaparra getting ready to speak to the fans. Nomar spoke and then introduced Manny by saying “Here is MannyWood !!!” Fans yelled “MVP, MVP, MVP !!” Then Manny said “First I want to appreciate you guys coming down here and support us and we are going to try to bring a championship to L.A. but you guys got to bring me back next year” The fans went crazy. Manny smiled and jumped up and down.
“It’s just great here; I don’t feel like I’m in a cage. The fans in L.A. are unbelievable — never in my 16 years have I received such a reception.”
This just in…. lol
UPDATED ! Brewers win the wild card. They will play against the Phillies. The Dodgers will play against the Cubs. Let’s Rock !
The Dodgers will open the Division Series on the road. Either in Chicago or Philadelphia. Who do you want ? Chose your poison. If the New York Mets win the wild card, we go to Philadelphia. If the Milwaukee Brewers win the wild card, we go to Chicago. I don’t mind which team we play. If we do play in Chicago, I think luck will be on our side. The Cubs were on this week’s Sports Illustrated Cover. That’s a curse. Some believe it on the curse. Others don’t. You judge for yourself.
Joe Torre always picks a player to manage the last game of the year. This year it will be Nomar Garciaparra. That’s pretty cool.
Where will Manny Ramirez be playing in 2009 ? Before I make a prediction, check out this article by Michael Ventre. It was written on the day the Dodgers made the trade to get Manny. I bet Ventre wishes he didn’t wrote that article. Manny has been a great citizen and most important, a great player. He has been awesome. Stats .396 17 Bombs 53 RBI’s There have been lots of articles about his future. Bill Plaschke of the L.A. Times writes that it will be a bad deal if we sign Manny. There is also a article about how much the Dodgers made this year just by having Manny on the team. Also, Manny admits he was unhappy in Boston. Okidoki…Manny is 36 years old. Scott Boras is the agent. Of course, Boras will be looking for 1 last big contract. I’m predicting he is going to want a 4 year contract paying him around 20 mil a year. Are the Dodgers willing to pay him that ? Is it safe to give him that much money for a guy that will be 40 years old by the end of this contract ? What will happen to Andruw Jones and Juan Pierre next year ? I will try to trade Pierre in the off-season. We have Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp set. That means there is
only 1 spot left. Jones has 1 year left on his contract. I would try to sign Manny for 3 years around $ 60 million. My prediction….Manny Ramirez will be playing for the New York Yankees for the next 4 years. Didn’t expect that, huh ? Yankees are mad. Manny spent his teen years in New York. For the last 8 years there have been rumors that Manny wants to play for the Yankees. Plus the way he ended his time with Boston, wouldn’t it be fun for him to play in New York ? The Yanks have the money. They will be opening a new stadium next year. It’s all set. Man-Ram is a Yankee😦 I hope I’m wrong. In the mean time, let’s enjoy his time here and win a Championship !
Video Time: Guess who is a big fan of Troy from West Virginia ? Andre Ethier ! lol
First of all, as you know, the Chicago White Sox will be playing a 3 game series at Dodger Stadium. They were just swept by the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. Those were exciting games. More exciting is to know that the managers of those respective teams can rap. Yeah, Ozzie and Lou rap. Who acts more “gangsta” ?
The news out of the Los Angeles Times is that Dodgers general manager Ned Colleti
would allow the Seattle Mariners to talk to Dodgers VP/Assistant GM Kim Ng. Seattle is looking for a GM since recently they fired their GM Bill Bavasi. If Kim ever does get a job with any club as a gm, she would be the first female gm in baseball. I’m sure, she would do a better job than Colleti….
Writing about L.A. Times, there is another article written by Chris Dufresne. It’s terrible. It made me sick. He can complain about the Dodgers all he wants.
But to compare this franchise to the Angels ? Wow. He wrote stuff like “Steve Garvey’s forearms leading the charge, always seemed a little too good to be true. The field was too perfect, the grass too green, the home uniforms too white, the portly manager a little bit too over the top” Well I’m sorry we don’t have a dumb rally-monkey!
So has anyone ever had a Tommy Lasorda Wine ? If you want to blow 500 bucks down the drain, you can purchase a limited edition Lasorda Wine. Buy it here. Apparently, it has won several awards for it’s great taste. He quotes on his blog “Over the weekend I went to the Pamona Fairplex to receive a most prestigious award. Actually, my Pinot Grigio received the award, as it received a gold medal and was named Best Wine, Best in Class at the 2008 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition’s inaugural Wine World of Sports, which pitted sports celebrities’ vintages against each other. My Chianti and Montepulciano, d’Abruzzo were also in the top ten, which makes me so happy because I would never get involved with a wine that wouldn’t please the people who drink it. “It’s especially satisfying because all the wine comes from Italy, which means it’s the best in the world. Nobody makes better wine than the Italians!” Hey Tommy, it’s not Pamona, it’s Pomona ! Also, don’t get drunk in public or else this might happen to you….Later! Peace!
