Cubs or Phillies ?

“It’s just great here; I don’t feel like I’m in a cage. The fans in L.A. are unbelievable — never in my 16 years have I received such a reception.”

2008 Playoffs

This just in…. lol

UPDATED ! Brewers win the wild card. They will play against the Phillies. The Dodgers will play against the Cubs. Let’s Rock !

-

The Dodgers will open the Division Series on the road. Either in Chicago or Philadelphia. Who do you want ? Chose your poison. If the New York Mets win the wild card, we go to Philadelphia. If the Milwaukee Brewers win the wild card, we go to Chicago. I don’t mind which team we play. If we do play in Chicago, I think luck will be on our side. The Cubs were on this week’s Sports Illustrated Cover. That’s a curse. Some believe it on the curse. Others don’t. You judge for yourself.

NO-MAH !

Joe Torre always picks a player to manage the last game of the year. This year it will be Nomar Garciaparra. That’s pretty cool.

Manny 2009

Where will Manny Ramirez be playing in 2009 ? Before I make a prediction, check out this article by Michael Ventre. It was written on the day the Dodgers made the trade to get Manny. I bet Ventre wishes he didn’t wrote that article. Manny has been a great citizen and most important, a great player. He has been awesome. Stats .396 17 Bombs 53 RBI’s There have been lots of articles about his future. Bill Plaschke of the L.A. Times writes that it will be a bad deal if we sign Manny.  There is also a article about how much the Dodgers made this year just by having Manny on the team. Also, Manny admits he was unhappy in Boston. Okidoki…Manny is 36 years old. Scott Boras is the agent. Of course, Boras will be looking for 1 last big contract. I’m predicting he is going to want a 4 year contract paying him around 20 mil a year. Are the Dodgers willing to pay him that ? Is it safe to give him that much money for a guy that will be 40 years old by the end of this contract ? What will happen to Andruw Jones and Juan Pierre next year ? I will try to trade Pierre in the off-season. We have Andre Ethier and Matt Kemp set. That means there is
Man-Ram.jpgonly 1 spot left. Jones has 1 year left on his contract. I would try to sign Manny for 3 years around $ 60 million. My prediction….Manny Ramirez will be playing for the New York Yankees for the next 4 years. Didn’t expect that, huh ? Yankees are mad. Manny spent his teen years in New York. For the last 8 years there have been rumors that Manny wants to play for the Yankees. Plus the way he ended his time with Boston, wouldn’t it be fun for him to play in New York ? The Yanks have the money. They will be opening a new stadium next year. It’s all set. Man-Ram is a Yankee :( I hope I’m wrong. In the mean time, let’s enjoy his time here and win a Championship !

Video Time:  Guess who is a big fan of Troy from West Virginia ? Andre Ethier ! lol

The Frisco Giants still exist ?

9-26-08

Wow, Dodgers go from a crazy celebration last night to playing a meaningless 3 game series at San Francisco. It doesn’t matter if we lose all 3 games or if we win any game, Dodgers will still be opening the playoffs on the road. Reason being that we will end up with the fewest wins among the other N.L. Teams. My advice is to take it easy. Don’t get hurt and just have fun. Get ready for next week and please….don’t get beat in the 1st round !

Pierre HR Ball

Remember when I posted a entry about a Juan Pierre HR Ball selling on eBay for $ 10,000 ? Well it was sold this week for only $ 150 I have no idea why you would buy this. Unless you are Jay-Z.

Steinbrenner Hating

Hank Steinbrenner, the son of Yankees owner George, is hating the playoff system that we have. Lil Steinbrenner blogs about it on Sporting News. He makes the following dumb statements…

“plenty of people in the media pointing out that Joe Torre and the Dodgers are going to the playoffs while we’re not. This is by no means a knock on Torre — let me make that clear — but look at the division they’re in. If L.A. were in the A.L. East, it wouldn’t be in the playoff discussion. The A.L. East is never weak. Ask the teams that finished
HankSteinbrenner.jpgbehind us all of those seasons. So, what should be done? Have an A.L. and an N.L. and put the top four finishers from each in the playoffs. You’d still have eight teams and the same number of playoff rounds.”

Relax Hank. Stop worrying about the playoff system and worry about how you are going to fix your roster. You are just bitter that Joe Torre will be in the spotlight once again and you will be at home crying. Your idea of having just the top 4 teams in each league is crazy. What if the top 8 teams are in the East ? Nobody in West Coast will give a damn about the playoffs! That’s something that MLB doesn’t want and you should know that. Also, looks like you don’t remember the year of 2000 ! Yanks won the World Series. Remember Hank ? Guess who were the top 4 teams in the A.L. that year ? It was the White Sox with 95 wins, Athletics with 91 wins, Mariners with 91 wins and the Indians with 90 wins. Yankees only had 87 wins that year ! They were able to play in the post-season because they won the East division. The White Sox won the Central. A’s got the West title and the Mariners won Wild Card. Indians didn’t go to the playoffs. You forgot, huh ? So shove it!

Hey everyone…Maddux_Dodgers.jpg

It’s official

Greg Maddux joins the Dodgers. Ned Colleti had this to say…

“It’s very rare that you get the opportunity to add a pitcher like Greg even one time, let alone twice,” Colletti said in a club release.

Really ? Even let alone twice ? So why did you let him go in the first place ?

Not Joe’s Fault

According to Wallace Matthews of Newsday, Joe Torre deserves apology from the Yankees. Matthews writes the following…

Last October, the Yankees made Joe Torre an offer he couldn’t accept, the chance to be a lame duck in the shooting gallery known as Yankee Stadium.torre_newsday.jpg

They came with 6 million bucks in one hand and brass knuckles in the other. Torre walked away because he knew that, even at that kind of money, he wasn’t going to be a manager, just a punching bag.

Can you imagine how hard and fast the fists would be flying in the Bronx today if Torre had accepted the deal, only to find himself 10 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays of all teams, and 5 1/2 games out of the wild-card race with fewer than 40 games to go?

For a guy dubbed Clueless Joe before his first day on the job, it was an incredibly shrewd and prescient move by Torre. -

I disagree that the Yankees need to apologize. They knew very well the way they treated him. I do agree Torre would of been a punching bag. Imagine if your only purpose is to win a World Series every single year ? It’s impossible to win every year. The Yanks didn’t treat him fair. I’m glad Torre is with us but I do believe we would of been ok with a younger manager that can fire up these young players.

Stamp This !

I noticed this last week. The U.S. Postal Service released a baseball theme stamps. Pretty cool. Nice to add to your collection. From the USPS site…

On July 16, 2008, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service™ issued a 42-centusps_baseball_stamp.jpg Take Me Out to the Ball Game commemorative stamp. The stamp was designed by Richard Sheaff of Scottsdale, Arizona. This issuance commemorates the 100th anniversary of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” one of the most popular baseball songs of all time. For decades, the song’s catchy chorus has been part of the musical tradition at ballparks around the country, especially during the seventh-inning stretch. The song was born on a New York City train in the summer of 1908, when passenger Jack Norworth (1879-1959), an actor, singer, and songwriter who had never attended a major league ball game, saw a sign about an upcoming game at the Polo Grounds. Suddenly inspired, he took out a piece of paper and began dashing off lines about a fictional fan.
